Mary Lee Dereske At 2016 InSight Women Photography Show

March 30, 2016: Mary Lee Dereske, Placitas New Mexico photographer, will show her artwork "Escape Route" at the 2016 spring's InSight New Mexico Women's Photography show. This juried show features women artists of New Mexico who use photography in any form in their artwork.

"Escape Route" is a fanciful image captured in a back alley in a small town in Colorado. The image is displayed in a stunning infused aluminum print.

Ms. Dereske's work has been accepted into the InSight show multiple times.

The Opening Reception for InSight will be on April 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fine Arts Building at EXPO New Mexico. The show continues April 2-24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Mondays.

Photographer Mary Lee Dereske To Show At 2013 ANMPAS

November 17, 2013: Mary Lee Dereske, Placitas New Mexico photographer, will exhibit her artwork "Wooden Boat Fading Away" at the 2013 Annual New Mexico Photographic Art Show (ANMPAS). This gallery show is comprised of some of the best images as judged by some of the top photographers in the state.

Regarding her black and white image "Wooden Boat Fading Away,"Mary Lee stated "I made this image at a turn of the century salmon cannery near Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Natural light coming through a tall window illuminated the front of this wooden boat as the remainder of the boat faded into the shadows. The interplay of light and shadow, the peeling paint, the separating wood and rusting eye on the front of the boat are a metaphor of how the culture and life of the cannery industry has faded from our times."

Photographer Accepted Into Albuquerque Show

The City of Albuquerque accepted Placitas photographer Mary Lee Dereske�s image �Capture� for their photography exhibit �This Time. This Place.� The exhibit showcases images of Albuquerque Open Space areas. The exhibit will be open to the public from June 1-30, 2013 at the Open Space Visitor Center, 6500 Coors Rd. NW, Albuquerque.

�Capture� is an image made in the Placitas Open Space. The black and white photo shows a delicate strand of horsehair captured by barbed wire on a weathered fence post. An expanse of sky back frames the streaming horsehair, and the barbed wire curves upward along the post, like a mermaid on a ship�s prow.

�I walk in the Placitas Open Space several times a week,� says Mary Lee Dereske, �always with my camera, always looking at the way the skies, the land, the vegetation changes. Often I see the horses, coyotes, jackrabbits, and a variety of birds. The horsehair was only captured by the barbed wire for a day, and then was...

Photographer Accepted Into InSight New Mexico Show

February 23, 2013: The InSight New Mexico Women's Photography Exhibit notified Mary Lee Dereske, Placitas New Mexico photographer, that her artwork "On the Road to Taos" was accepted into this spring's show. This juried show features women artists of New Mexico who use photography in any form in their artwork.

Ms. Dereske's artwork is classic photography. In the tradition of film photographers, she chooses and frames her images carefully, mindful of the light, colors, and elements of the scene. "On the Road to Taos" is a black and white depiction of an iconic tree standing sentinel on the road leading north to Taos.

The Opening Reception for InSight will be on April 6 at the Fine Arts Building at EXPO New Mexico. The show will be open to the public April 7-April 27 daily except Tuesdays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
