Artist's Description

In 1870 George Conrad Hutzler, from Oberkrumbach Bavaria, staked his claim for 160 acres on South Manitou Island Michigan. Twenty six years later, he died and was buried at this now historic homestead, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The only way to visit this homestead is by boat or ferry. The uninhabited South Manitour Island is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
