The Big Sable Point Lightstation was built in 1867 along the western shores of Michigan on Lake Michigan. It has listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the US Department of Interior. The black and white lighthouse with was originally cream colored brick, but was covered with boiler plate in 1900. All materials to build the lighthouse and station had to be brought in by ship; the station was not accessible by road until the 1930's.
