Christ in the Desert Monastery is the most remote monastery in the United States. The Benedictine monks have built this beautiful cathedral near Abiquiu, New Mexico in a remote canyon of the Chama River. The monastery backs up against gorgeous red cliffs which are visible from the church windows. It is a beautiful place of solitude. The brothers welcome visitors and provide a place for silent retreats. Access can be difficult - it is adjacent to a wilderness area and is only accessed by a 14 mile dirt track.
