The Peony (Paeonia) flower symbolizes many things in Asian culture, including riches, honor, wealth, good fortune, beauty, romance, and (I've been told by a Vietnamese friend), the revealing of secrets. Some facts about the peony - it is the state flower of Indiana; it is the symbolic flower for the 12th wedding anniversary; it is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower; the seeds have been used medicinally; and in my mind, it is downright gorgeous!
