Distant mountains reflect in one of the many ponds at the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge near Socorro, New Mexico. Leaves still hang onto cottonwood trees in this mid December scene. The Bosque del Apache is well known worldwide for its vast number of sandhill cranes, snow geese, and other birds who winter here. It is also home to javalina, white tail deer, coyotes and other mammals.
