Artist's Description

Designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen, a Danish sculptor, and completed in 1821, the Lion of Lucerne is a memorial to commemorate the Swiss Guards who lost their lives in 1792 during the French Revolution. Sculpted in an old stone quarry, this dying lion with a broken spear in its side is one of the most moving sculptures I have ever witnessed.

About Mary Lee Dereske

Mary Lee Dereske

Every time I try to describe what "type" of photographer I am, or what photography "means", I find the words are as fleeting as the perfect moment of light on a scene. I'm a native daughter of Michigan, now living in New Mexico. The two places are like apples and oranges. I love them both. In addition to the great products on this site, SIGNED custom art prints, printed to your size specification are available. Use the email link to contact me for more information. All images ⓒ Mary Lee Dereske and may not be reproduced or otherwise used without explicit permission of the artist.
