I love artichokes - preferably steamed with butter (I prefer simple!). My friend grows them in her garden, and I was totally amazed the first time I saw one flower. I had no idea the plant would turn into such a gorgeous and unusual sight. For that matter, I never knew I was eating a flower blossom!
The globe artichoke (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus) is a variety of thistle.
