Artist's Description

Near the heart of the dustbowl, a crooked house slants towards its demise. I wonder if another dust bowl may catch us unawares. I have a picture of this house two weeks short of a year previous to this image. The fields around it were green, and white clouds punctuated a blue sky. But now, in 2020, red dirt punctuates faded grass stubble of the year before. Homesteaders must have been sick at heart when the dry years began.

About Mary Lee Dereske

Mary Lee Dereske

Every time I try to describe what "type" of photographer I am, or what photography "means", I find the words are as fleeting as the perfect moment of light on a scene. I'm a native daughter of Michigan, now living in New Mexico. The two places are like apples and oranges. I love them both. In addition to the great products on this site, SIGNED custom art prints, printed to your size specification are available. Use the email link to contact me for more information. All images ⓒ Mary Lee Dereske and may not be reproduced or otherwise used without explicit permission of the artist.
