This bronze sculpture by Russian sculptor Frederic Sogoyan (Frid Soghoyan) expresses gratitude to the USA for aid provided to Armenia after the 1988 Spitak earthquake. The pedestal reads "To the American People from a grateful Armenain People Earthquke Assistance December 7, 1988". Sculptor Soghoyan said: “I am from Gyumri and I did lose 32 close friends in the 1988 earthquake. During my visit to Washington, I realized how important U.S. aid was to the earthquake victims. I had to do something in appreciation for what the American people had done for Armenia.” Soghoyan died in 2019.
