Artist's Description
Known as the Very Large Array, or VLAY, this series of large radio telescopes are set against a vast, open landscape with distant mountain ranges under a cloudy sky. The dry, grassy terrain of the Plains of San Augustine in New Mexico contrasts with the advanced technology of the telescopes.
The VLA was the setting for the Jodie Foster movie "Contact".
