Russian born American philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand, who authored famous books such as Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, remains one of the most controversial figures of the twentieth century due to her outspoken beliefs in extreme capitalism and atheism. She rejected all forms of religion and advocated the pursuit of reason. She remains a popular figure in libertarian circles today.
