The Madrone, or Arbutus tree, is sacred to Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest. Legends include tales of how this tree provided safety for canoes during the great flood, how it is the tree of knowledge because it can always find the sun, and how its webbed roots hold the splintered earth together. It is also known as the tree of depth and integrity.
