This is a Union Pacific M-10000 train, which just so happens to look like a hot dog. It had a Winton 191 distillate engine.
It's a diesel powered train and was considered a concept idea back in its day. It was created during the depression, and was a symbol of how life could be in the future. It was the first Streamliner, it toured the US in a 13,000 mile run.
The train had a turret cab, an inward-slanting Duralumin body (it was a type of aluminum). The nose was formed as a parabolic arch, and it has a huge grill for a lot of air intake. The horns were set perfectly at ear level, to be certain you would spill your coffee or wet your pants when it went off.
There were a total of three cars, it wasn't designed to carry more. A driving, power and baggage car, and two passenger cars. The entire train was 204ft, 85-short-ton, the train was fully articulated, with trucks shared between trains.
This train particular never served in regular service. Though there were others that were for a while, they survived till 1941, then were melted down for the war. They were also known as the "Tin worm" and the "Tin zip".
