This beautiful 1892 bridge spans the Rio Grande in south central Colorado. It is known by several names - the Lobato Bridge, Costilla Crossing, and Old State Bridge. Now on the National Registry of Historic Structures, this bridge was purchased for $8400 from the Wrought Iron Bridge Company in Canton, Ohio. (The company was later bought by J.P. Morgan and became the American Bridge Company.) At the time of construction, this was the longest, highest, double-span steel-truss bridge west of the Mississippi River. The bridge design is also known as a Thacher truss.
