This bridge has seen many things we can never even imagine. What other bridge has been moved from London to the desert? Imagine going from the British Isles to a land where palm trees grow.
This 1831 London Bridge was slowly sinking under the weight of modern day traffic when it was purchased by Robert P. McCullock in 1968. Paying $2.46 million for the bridge, he paid $7 million to have it disassembled and shipped across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, up to California, and then to the southwestern deserts of Arizona. Here it was reassambled as a tourist attraction. The water flowing beneath it is now part of the man made reservori of Lake Havasu.
